The original Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 1998 and has developed into a worldwide ecumenical ministry with its own website.
The purpose of the prayer shawl is to give someone a tangible example of God’s love and concern. The shawl is made of soft yarn so the recipients can wrap up in it and literally feel God’s arms around them. The shawl is called a prayer shawl because it is made in the atmosphere of prayer. The maker of the shawl prays before, during, and after it has been worked on.
If you knit or crochet and are interested in joining us, call Sister Kathleen at 718-224-5695. We began our prayer shawl ministry in January and both the ministry and shawls were blessed at the annual Anointing of the Sick Mass on April 12, 2014. To date, there are 18 women who are involved in this outpouring of love for one’s neighbor. We meet monthly in the rectory meeting room to share ideas and enjoy each other’s company.
